Having made a venture into finding a way to

make sculptures with sheet glass,  started from

the size of jewels,  I could gradually proceed in

getting an object larger enough to dominate

space around it,  namely,  to be well appreciated

its spatial quality.  Even though, there were

still many limitations to fabricate laminated glass.

I wanted to make a transparent column with

laminated glass in vain.   As I’ d never forgotten

the exquisite beauty of The Court of The Lions,

in Alhambra Palace, surrounded by gallery with

many columns with white marble, 

I’d dreamed of creating such elegant

colonnade with laminated glass.

掌中の珠に近い小品から始めた板硝子を

めぐる探検の旅も徐々に、単体で空間を

支配するに充分な存在感を持つ作品を

作れるようになった。が、当初から

作ることを夢見ながらが思い通りには

辿りつけないものもあった。

アルハンブラ宮殿のライオンコートを

取り囲む列柱、空間を彩り仕切るリズムが

なんとも心地よく、そのリズムに合せて

回廊を歩くうちに、ロングドレスの裾を

引きずり静々と歩を進める王妃のような

優雅な気分にひたった若き日の熱い体験・・・

あの列柱が透明に輝く硝子だったら・・・

硝子柱を作りたい！それまで何度依頼しても

首を横に振り続けていた加工職人が遂に、承諾した。

加工精度にクレームをつけないという条件で・・・。
