The size of square column was 100 x 100 x 1500mm long.
Because of its size, it might be more properly called
a square bar rather than a column. Nevertheless,
it was terribly huge for the small workplace of
my fabricator in minute factory whose main job was
lens polishing. So, anyway, he did it! It took ten years
for him to accept my order to make this square column.
By the time, I’d become very aware that no other
companies or factories dealing with sheet glass
would try to make this.
断面が100ミリ角、長さ1500ミリ。柱と呼ぶには小さく、
むしろ角棒とでも言う方がふさわしいだろうが、
それでも、レンズ磨きを主要業務とする零細工場には
不似合いな、恐ろしく大きな代物だった。ヤッター！
加工精度に関して怖れていたほどのミスはない！。
ここまで作れれば、空間芸術としてさらに多様な展開を
見せることが出来る。実は角柱の制作を請負う人を
探すため建材硝子屋さん数軒に打診したが
すべて断られていたりして、この単純な形態を
得るに到るまでに十年を必要とした。
高度に生産管理されていてもロットにより硝子の色が
微妙に異なるため、安易に寄せ集めた素材では縞模様の
柱が出来てしまう。素材選びにも神経を使う仕事なのだ。
