‘Light of Magallanes’ was placed in the right

direction to the west on the hill of Notojima. 

When I was there to observe the setting

procedures in high summer, the sun of four o’clock

in the afternoon jumped into the concave face of

mirror-finished stainless steel and  scattered

reflections in all directions.  The photograph above was

taken on the sloping road nearby my home where

I go up and down almost every day.  I’d never

encountered such a scene as the sun perfectly fitted in

between the houses on the top of the hill. 

The camera recoreded the shooting date and

time: Oct. 11th,  2009,  16:25.  It might be the

moment I could get only once in my life. 

「光航」は西に向けて置かれた。

私が設置に立ち会った夏の日には、ゆっくりと

巡ってきた午後四時の太陽が、折り紙のように

折り目をつけながら凹面を成すステンレスの

鏡面に飛び込み、激しく弾かれて三、四個に分裂した。

そのさまは、当然ながら、まともな写真画像には

ならなかった。日々微妙に位置を変える太陽、

今、どのような角度にあるのだろう。雪の後の

晴天に白い光を浴びる姿も美しい、と伝え聞いた。

ほぼ毎日上り下りしているわが家近くの坂。

その頂上、家と家の間に完璧に収まった太陽。

初めて目にする光景に慌ててカメラを取り出した。

そのデータには2009 10 11 16:25とある。

一期一会か、昨年も今年もその豪快な

姿には出会えなかった。
