Because of the time of a day when I usually

start to go out,  thanks to ingenius direction of

the sunlight of the late afternoon,  the sloping road

near my home often presents a stage for a dramatic

story in which I might enjoy performing its heroine.

I’ve been much more interested in going up and

down on sloping road rather than walking on flats,

because sloping roads often bring varied flavor into

sight as I walk along,  and even stir my poetical

imagination sometime. Furthermore, some of

sloping roads are named after distinguished

history to stimulate my curiosity.

わが庭の一部と呼んでもよいほど

日々慣れ親しんでいるこの坂は、私が出歩く

時間帯とも相俟って、傾いた陽光が多彩な演出を

見せるので、物語の主人公気取りで密かな楽しみを

味わうこともある。事実、ＴＶドラマの撮影に

使われたこともあったようだけれど・・・

平地より視界の変化が大きく時には詩的な風情を

漂わせる坂道に、以前から興味を持っていた。

例えば、鉄飛坂、鶯坂、寺郷の坂など由緒ありげな

名がついていたりして、想像が膨らむ。近年は足腰を

鍛えるという現実的な目的で、平地から坂へ速度を落さず

一気に上ることを唯一の掟にし、起伏に富む道をあえて

選んで歩く。その歩行は日々の体調を知る的確な

バロメーターとしても役立っている。
