Talking of titles of the foreign movie films

translated into Japanese,  I think to have

many topics to be discussed.  Recently many of

the Western films are released under the

title with katakana characters converted from

original Western titles, just emulating their

pronouciations.  On the other hand,  there have been

many Japanese films titled in the katakana words,

originally adopted foreign words but nowadays

becoming so familiar as to be used daily in

a mixture with Japanese.  The katakana titles of

both cases seem to be weak in appeal power nor

remain in my mind. I wonder how other people

think of this situation.

題名の翻訳について考えだすと話題に事欠かない。

近年、原題の発音をそのままカタカナに

置き換えただけの題名と和製外国語とでも言うべき

カタカナ語を使用したものが多くなり、

新聞紙面の下段に並ぶ映画広告を一見すると、

カタカナだらけでまさに国籍不明。

どれが国産でどれが外国産の映画か、

かなり混乱する。カタカナが多く並ぶと瞬時に

意味を把握しにくくなるので訴求力に欠け、

記憶に残す力もないと思えるけれど、果たして

どれほどの人が題名を理解した上で、あるいは、

それに触発されて映画館まで行くのだろう?。

出演者の名前のほうが題名より

大事なのかもしれない。（カタカナ語＝和製外国語の

多用は映画の題名に限ったことではないけれど）。
