The small wooden dredger looked like almost

disable boat on the quiet pond where none was

playing around.   As soon as I saw it,  I brought up

the images of the lively and joyful paintings of

the Impressionism,  basically the opposit to

the lonely atmosphere created by the humble

dredger but had something like an aura to inspire

poesy in my mind.  I don’t know even now why

I connected the two completely different feeling

right away.  On the contrary,  I well remember

how happy I was in thinking of the waterside

scenes of paintings of Impressionism.

アヒル型の足漕ぎボートや昔ながらの

手漕ぎボートで賑わう休日の晴れやかさとは異なり、

人気のない池にうち捨てられたかのような

うらぶれた感じの浚渫船には、詩心をくすぐる

風情があった。とは言え、ひっそりとした佇まいが

醸しだすむしろ寂しい雰囲気が、何故充足した

生の華やいだ表現である印象派絵画の対極的世界に

直結しのたか、今もってわからない。

ただ、カメラを向けながら、その独りよがりな

連想に何やら勝手に悦に入っていたことだけは、

今でもよく憶えている。傑作を手に入れたような

その時の嬉しさが記憶に刻み込まれたのは、

もしかすると、そのほぼ四八時間後に起った

途轍もない災害の衝撃と心のどこかで

関係しているのかもしれない。
